The Regional Government Council, through Resolutions no. 193/2026 and no. 194/2026, approved a public commendation for Madeiran athletes Marcy Ariana Sousa Gonçalves and Maria João Bettencourt Correia, both playing for Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
The recognition follows their victory in the 2025/2026 Portuguese Cup in the senior women's basketball category. The Government highlights that the athletes' performance brought prestige to the Autonomous Region of Madeira at a national level.
